Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a world wide disease that tends to be cronic and very difficult   to treat. Now there is a new and effective therapy that eliminates the lesions and helps reduce arthritis that may accompany this disease.

Psoriatic arthritis   has been defined as an inflammatory arthritis, usually seronegative for rheumatoid factor, associated with psoriasis.

Patients with Psoriasis Arthritis have a reduced quality of life compared with the general population and various instruments have been developed to measure this. Patients suffer from fatigue more frequently than the general population.

Treatment of Psoriasis

The treatment of psoriasis has long been a challenge to the dermatologist on several levels. Psoriasis does not respond in any predictable fashion to topical or systemic agents, and to date there are no clinical or laboratory measures to predict response to therapy in an individual. In clinical practice, emphasis on impact of the disease and its treatment on a patient's quality of life and health should guide treatment choices. Severity of disease, including location and body surface area, response to previous therapies, medical history, concomitant medications, treatment goals, convenience of administration, and financial limitations, must all be considered carefully when choosing initial therapy. Because in any given patient severity and impact of disease will fluctuate over time and with different therapies, frequent reassessment of symptoms, treatment satisfaction, and short- and long-term side effects of therapy is a necessary approach.

The armamentarium of therapies for psoriasis of any severity is broad in choice and complexity. Traditionally, topical therapies are usually considered first for mild disease. With the use of new and improved   systemic therapy, which means they are given either orally or injected subcutaneouosly . These systemic therapies   include ultraviolet therapy, oral immunosuppressive agents, and biologic agents and   or combinations of the above, are considered when patients have more moderate-to-severe disease or psoriasis that is unresponsive or inappropriate for topical agents. Dermatologists now have new options to offer you. Please don't hesitate in giving yourself a chance in getting help.
